Say It Now

Life is an adventure. A long journey filled with happiness, sadness, struggles and success. The journey of life introduces us to many difficult situations.

Two friends of mine recently had health issues that required hospital stays and surgery. I witnessed the simple power of empathy in both these cases. My friends received emails and phone calls of encouragement and caring. The result of this caring correspondence was extraordinarily obvious, but not unsuspected.

To watch a dear friend lie in a hospital bed awaiting surgery with many unanswered questions, such a circumstance would create is difficult at best. Then to watch that person receive an email, letter, phone call from someone who simply says "get well, I need you, I care" is a revelation. A smile appears on their face, eyes widen, monotone voice becomes excited.

A simple note can do all this. I am reminded of a poem called Say It Now, the author is unknown. I offer the message here so that when a loved one falls into the valley of despair, a few words from you may bring the light into their life that makes all the difference in the world.

Say It Now

If you have a tender message,
Or a loving word to say,
Don't wait 'til you forget it,
But whisper it today!

The tender words unspoken,
The letter never sent,
The long-forgotten messages,
The wealth of love unspent.

For these some hearts are breaking,
For these some loved ones wait,
Than give them what they're needing,
Before it is too late!
